Many people believe that overweight or obese people are just undisciplined, but Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S. and the team at Dr. Feiz and Associates know that is not true. Too many people who suffer from severe obesity simply don’t know how to lose weight and keep it off, and the low self-esteem often associated with being obese can make it hard to want to improve. Fortunately, Dr. Feiz and his great team are here to help you get started. With changes to diet, starting an exercise routine, and bariatric surgery, you can become a healthier, happier person. If you have questions about the benefits of Lap Band vs. sleeve gastrectomy, or are considering Lap Band revision surgery for a permanent solution to your weight issues, Dr. Feiz can help you.

Patients who undergo bariatric surgery often choose the Lap Band procedure, in which a surgical device is wrapped around the stomach to make a smaller pocket, which helps patients feel full after eating less. However, a small number of patients still suffer hunger pangs or cravings for junk food, even if they feel physically full. Dr. Feiz knows that this is a sign that ghrelin, the “hunger hormone,” is taking over the patient’s weight loss journey. This is why Dr. Feiz specializes in Lap Band revision surgery – the Lap Band device is removed, and then Dr. Feiz and his surgical team perform the gastric sleeve surgery, which permanently reduces the size of the stomach and removes the part of the organ which produces ghrelin. This procedure can help patients feel both physically and emotionally satisfied with smaller, healthier meals.
