If you are considering weight loss surgery, Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S. knows that you have been through your share of heartache. Being seriously overweight reduces not only life span, but the ability to enjoy life. Indeed, patients who are obese or severely obese struggle with weight loss for much of their lives, but Dr. Feiz founded his practice, Dr. Feiz & Associates, to help those who suffer from these conditions. Dr. Feiz and his team help patients choose the best weight loss surgery – often Lap Band vs. sleeve gastrectomy – so they can reduce or eliminate comorbidities and enjoy their lives again.

Most patients choose the Lap Band procedure, because it is the least invasive procedure and typically reversible when necessary. Patients with Lap Bands usually see amazing weight loss results, but in some cases, they do not lose the weight they need to. This can be due to the “hunger hormone,” ghrelin. In an average person, the stomach produces ghrelin to signal that it is empty, and when it is full, hormone production stops. However, for many obese individuals, their stomach will continue to produce ghrelin even when they have eaten a physically satisfying meal and this may continue even after a procedure. These patients often see better success with a gastric sleeve procedure, which is why Dr. Feiz offers Lap Band revision surgery. This procedure removes the Lap Band, and then uses the gastric sleeve surgery to permanently reduce the size of the stomach, which removes the part that produces ghrelin.

Whether you are just beginning to consider bariatric surgery, or if you need a band to sleeve revision, Dr. Feiz and his team are here to help.
