Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S. understands that choosing the right weight loss surgery is a tremendously difficult decision. There are so many different options that it can be overwhelming to select the right one for your particular lifestyle and needs. With choices like sleeve gastrectomy, lap band, lap gastric bypass, and lap band revision surgery, anybody can have a tough time choosing the right surgery for you. The most well-known surgical weight loss option is the lap band surgery.

The lap band surgery is the option that has received the most press in the past, but not everybody knows exactly what it entails. In lap band surgery, an adjustable silicone band is put near the top of the stomach. The band restricts the amount of food a person can intake at any given time. A port, a small device connected to tubing, is placed under the skin so that a surgeon like Dr. Feiz can adjust the tightness of the band. Unlike gastric bypass surgery, lap band is far less invasive.

There has been plenty of debate about lap band vs. sleeve procedures. The lap band, unlike many of the other surgical options, is not permanent. If you aren’t seeing the sort of results you were hoping for or feel discomfort due to the band, there is always band to sleeve surgery to remedy the issue. Ultimately the decision about whether or not the lap band is right for you is up to your own personal preferences, but Dr. Feiz and associates are available to answer your questions in the meantime.
