According to current statistics, up to two-thirds of adults in the US are overweight or obese. This means that they can suffer attendant health problems like heart disease, diabetes, joint pain, and even hormonal or psychological imbalances like depression. Many obese or severely obese people have struggled to lose weight for years, with little effect. Rapid weight loss followed by weight gain can do a great deal of harm to the body. That’s why Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S. founded his weight loss surgery center, Dr. Feiz & Associates. For many severely obese patients, the best option is weight loss surgery. However, not too many patients know the difference between weight loss surgeries, like Lap Band vs. sleeve gastrectomy.

This might sound scary at first, but there are several weight loss surgeries with proven records of success. The most commonly performed are Lap Band, gastric sleeve, and Lap Band revision surgery. Dr. Feiz knows that educated patients make the best decisions for themselves, which is why he and his team work closely with their patients before, during, and after their weight loss surgery. The first steps with Dr. Feiz involve noting the patient’s history, and then discussing the difference between Lap Band (which uses the band device to create an hour glass-shaped stomach), sleeve gastrectomy (where 75% or more of the stomach is removed to create a smaller “sleeve”), and revision surgery (in which a Lap Band is removed and a gastric sleeve created).

Every body has different needs for weight loss, and Dr. Feiz and his team at Dr. Feiz & Associates want to help patients make the right choice. Whether you are considering Lap Band or sleeve gastrectomy, or need a band to sleeve revision procedure, contact Dr. Feiz for help.
