Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S has worked with many patients who struggle with severe obesity. His goal when founding his practice, Dr. Feiz & Associates, was to offer the highest quality weight loss surgery, as well as outstanding pre- and post-surgical care. He knows that most people who struggle with obesity have tried to lose weight in the past, but have been unable to keep that weight off. In many cases, these people develop comorbid diseases like diabetes or heart disease, which can reduce not only the quality of life, but the length of life, as well. Dr. Feiz and his team offer all kinds of bariatric procedures, from Lap Band to band to sleeve revision, that help obese people lose weight and keep it off for good.

Dr. Feiz performs all of the most commonly performed bariatric surgeries. Two of these procedures, Lap Band vs. sleeve gastrectomy, share some similarities, but can impact different patients in different ways. The Lap Band procedure involves putting a rubber band-like device around the stomach, creating a smaller pocket for food. The patient feels full after smaller meals, and the digestive system remains intact. However, for patients who struggle with constantly feeling hungry or intense food cravings, the gastric sleeve may be a better option. These people probably struggle with ghrelin, aka the hungry hormone. In an average person, ghrelin signals the brain that the body is hungry; however, in some people, this hormone goes out of control and the production of it only increase as individuals begin to loose. The gastric sleeve procedure removes the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin, so patients not only lose weight from eating less, but they feel more satisfied with smaller meals.

In some cases, patient who have disappointing results following their initial procedure obtain Lap Band revision surgery. This procedure involves removing the Lap Band device, then creating a sleeve through gastric sleeve surgery. Whichever procedure you are interested in, contact Dr. Feiz & Associates today for help.
